Romeo and Juliet – Prokofiev
Cinema Paradiso – Morricone
Serenade for Strings – Tchaikovsky
Cavalleria Rusticana – Mascagni
I’ll Always Love You – Dolly Parton
Bolero – Ravel
Bolero? Yes! Experience the passion of symphonic music with this special evening of classical romance. You’ll hear two sides of the same love story— Prokofiev’s masterful Romeo and Juliet and the Love Theme from Franco Zefferelli’s film of the same name, arranged by Henry Mancini. Ennio Morricone’s 1988 “Cinema Paradiso” is one of the more moving film scores ever written. FSO concertmaster Robyn Bauer will be featured. You will also hear the famed Intermezzo from Mascagni’s opera “Cavalleria Rusticana,” and Dolly Parton’s classic love song “I Will Always Love You.”
But we’ll really turn up the heat in the finale…Ravel’s Bolero. A tour de force for professional orchestras, the piece, which premiered in 1928, is Ravel’s most famous composition. Subject of several feature films, the piece has remained popular 85 years after the composer’s death.
