Stamp your passport and rekindle your passion for travel with this European musical fantasy! We’ll touch down in Spain with the popular Capriccio Espagnol by Rimsky-Korsakov. Featuring our superb concertmaster Robyn Bauer on violin, this masterwork is known for its excitement and energy. Next we’re off to the land of shamrocks with Leroy Anderson’s wonderful arrangement of Irish songs in Irish Suite, made popular by the Boston Pops.
Only recently been made available to other orchestras by the Pops, we’ve got the “Luck of the Irish” to perform it here in Fredericksburg. Then it’s across the channel to England for the Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis by Vaughn-Williams. Written for double string orchestra, this is one of the finest works by the English master.
We’ll hop on the train to the Czech Republic for this postcard-perfect conclusion to our European tour with the Polka and Fugue from “Schwanda the Bagpiper” by Weinberger.
Bon voyage!
