Principal Violist with the FSO and Chair of VCU’s Department of Music, Dr. Goldie is a conductor, clinician, adjudicator, and author of four string pedagogy books.
Full Biography
Dr. Sandy Goldie is Principal Violist of the Fredericksburg Symphony Orchestra and Chair of the Department of Music at Virginia Commonwealth University. A frequent guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator, she works with district, regional, and state honors orchestras across the country and has presented at national and international conferences, including Midwest, ASTA, TMEA, NAfME, and ISAME. Her leadership in music education spans presidencies of the ASTA Virginia and South Carolina chapters, the VMEA Higher Education division, and a seat on the American Viola Society's Virginia executive board; she is also the founding director of the Future Music Educators Honors Symposium for high school juniors and seniors.
She has performed professionally with symphonies in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, and Virginia, and is the author of four string pedagogy books: Rehearsing the Middle School Orchestra; Rehearsing the High School Orchestra; Rehearsing the Full Orchestra; and String Purchasing, Maintenance, Trouble-shooting and More. Her Rehearsing the Middle School Orchestra reached #1 on Amazon's orchestra category, and her string problem-solving guide is used in many teacher-training programs. She recently served as orchestra adjudicator for the U.S. National Orchestra Festival and as adjudicator and clinician at the Victoria Music Festival in Melbourne, Australia. Her greatest loves are her family, her dog Eli, her cat Charlie, and the joy of sharing great music-making with her students and fellow teachers.
